アレックス・エスキン

アレックス・エスキン (Alex Eskin, 1965年5月19日[1] - )は、アメリカの数学者。シカゴ大学の数学部門におけるArthur Holly Compton殊勲教授である[2]。研究対象は、合理的ビリヤード(rational billiards)幾何学的群論である。

生涯

エスキンは1965年5月19日にキーウで生まれた[1][2][3]。父親は、カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校の教授である、ロシア系ユダヤ人のグレゴリー・エスキン(1936年生まれ)である。一家は1974年イスラエルに、1982年にはアメリカ合衆国に移住した。

エスキンは1993年、プリンストン大学にてピーター・サルナックの下で博士号を取得した[4]

エスキンは1999年よりシカゴ大学の教授を務めている[5]

栄誉

エスキンは1998年にはベルリンで開かれた国際数学者会議で招待講演を行った[6]。2010年にはハイデラバードで開かれた同会議でも招待講演を行っている[7]

デイビッド・フィッシャーケヴィン・ホワイトと共同で構築した可解群の擬等長な剛性の研究への貢献に対して、2007年クレイ研究賞が授与された[8]。2012年、エスキンはアメリカ数学会のフェローになった[9] 。2015年4月、エスキンは米国科学アカデミーの会員に選出された[5][10]。2020年には、マリアム・ミルザハニとの共同研究の成果である並進曲面のモジュライに対する-不変量と不変測度の分類[11]に対して、ブレイクスルー賞がエスキンに授与された[12][13]
