イズラエル・シェフラー

ブルックリン・カレッジで心理学の学士号と修士号を取得後、ユダヤ教神学院でヘブライ文学修士号と名誉博士号を取得[2]。1952年、ペンシルバニア大学でネルソン・グッドマンの指導のもと「引用について（On quotation）」と題された博士論文を提出[3]。同年、ハーバード大学の教員に着任し、1992年まで教え続けた[4]。主な研究領域は、言語、象徴、科学、教育についての哲学的解釈。アメリカ芸術・科学アカデミーのフェロー、国立教育アカデミーの創立メンバー、科学哲学協会とチャールズ・S・パース協会の会長を歴任した[2]。

シェフラーの著作は、フランス語、ドイツ語、イタリア語、スペイン語、ヘブライ語、中国語、日本語、ペルシャ語に翻訳されている[5]。
