ジェラルド・ファインバーグ
ジェラルド・ファインバーグ（Gerald Feinberg、1933年5月27日 - 1992年4月21日）は、アメリカ合衆国の物理学者、未来学者である。コロンビア大学教授。

教育とキャリア
ブロンクス科学高校に通い、スティーヴン・ワインバーグ、シェルドン・グラショーと同級生だった[1]。
コロンビア大学で1953年に学士号を取得し、1957年に李政道のもとで博士号を取得した。同大学で1959年から物理学の教員、1965年から教授を務め、1980年から1982年までは物理学部長を務めた。プリンストン高等研究所に1年間、ブルックヘブン国立研究所に2年間在籍した[2]。
1960年にスローン・フェローシップを受賞した。
研究
物理学
ファインバーグは1958年にミューニュートリノの存在を予測した[3]。これは、1962年にコロンビア大学の同僚であるレオン・レーダーマン、メルビン・シュワルツ、ジャック・シュタインバーガーの実験によって確認され、3人はその功績によりノーベル物理学賞を受賞した。
1967年、特殊相対性理論を拡張して、「あらかじめ光速を越えており、どんなに減速しても光速より遅く動けない粒子」が存在しうることを論証し、それをタキオンと命名した[4]。
