経歴
1978年11月23日、ハワイ州マウイ郡の日系アメリカ人の母親とアイルランドやスロバキアの血を引く父親に生まれる[2][3][4]。サンディエゴ州立大学にて映画を学んだ[5]。
2007年、大学在学中にLowell Frankと共同監督を務めた『Deacon's Mondays』が京都国際学生映画祭など多くの映画祭で入選を果たす。 2009年、短編映画『Short Term 12』がサンダンス映画祭で審査員賞を受賞する[6]。2012年、長編デビュー作品『ヒップスター』を手がける[7]。2013年、ブリー・ラーソン主演の長編映画『ショート・ターム』がSXSW映画祭でプレミア上映され、審査員賞と観客賞を受賞する[8]。
