トニー・リグリー

トニー・リグリー (Tony Wrigley) の通称で知られる、サー・エドワード・アンソニー・リグリー（Sir Edward Anthony Wrigley, FBA[1]、1931年8月17日 - 2022年2月24日[2][3]）は、イギリスの歴史人口学者。リグリーは1964年に、ピーター・ラスレット (Peter Laslett) とともに、「人口と社会構造の歴史研究のためのケンブリッジ・グループ」(the Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure) を立ち上げた。

経歴

1931年、イギリス・マンチェスター生まれ。1949年から1958年まで、ケンブリッジ大学ピーターハウスで学部と大学院課程を修めた。ピーターハウスのフェローに選出され、1979年まで在職。その後、ピーターハウスの名誉フェローとなった。また、ロンドン・スクール・オブ・エコノミクスで人口学の教授もつとめた。

1994年から2000年まで、ケンブリッジ大学コーパス・クリスティ・カレッジの学寮長を務めた[3]。1980年には英国学士院 (British Academy) フェローに選出され、1997年から2001年まではその院長も務めた[4]。

受賞・栄典

業績
  • 多数の著作を執筆したが、その中でも特に、1988年に出版された『Continuity, Chance and Change』の著者として知られている。この本の中で、収穫逓減の法則が人口増を減速させる現象に関するマルサスの誤りについて説明した。
