ドナルド・リチー
ドナルド・リチー（Donald Richie、1924年4月17日 - 2013年2月19日）は、アメリカ合衆国出身の映画批評家、映画監督。日本文化、とりわけ日本映画の海外紹介に貢献した[1]。

来歴・人物
1924年（大正13年）4月11日、アメリカ合衆国のオハイオ州のライマ（Lima）に生まれる。少年時から映画に関心を持ち8ミリで作品を作り始めた。ライマ中央高校卒業後、ヒッチハイクとアルバイトでアメリカ各地をさまよったあと、第二次世界大戦勃発により軍に入隊する[2]。
1946年（昭和21年）に進駐軍の募集に応募し、タイピストの職を得、翌年来日した[2]。進駐軍の文化財部で働いていたとき、タイプができたのでニュースレターに記事を投稿してみたところ好評を得、アメリカ軍の準機関紙星条旗新聞（スターズ・アンド・ストライプス）に異動になる。映画欄担当になったのを機に、日本語はできないながらも日本映画をたくさん観始め、映画関係者に知遇を得る。日本滞在中、英米出身の日本研究者たちの博識ぶりや上級高官たちの社交世界に触れ、また、川端康成、鈴木大拙、多忠麿、加島祥造、早坂文雄といった多くの文化人とも交友が生まれ、オハイオの田舎では到底味わい得なかった知的で文化的な世界に大いに触発された[2]。
1949年に帰国後、コロンビア大学に入学、1953年（昭和28年）に卒業。1954年（昭和29年）にふたたび来日し『ジャパンタイムズ』紙の映画評や書評などを執筆し始めた。また進駐軍の一員として来日をしてからこの時代にかけて作曲活動も始め、舞台音楽などを発表している[3]。
1959年（昭和34年）にジョセフ・アンダーソンとともに The Japanese Film: Art and Industry という、英語による日本映画史研究書を上梓。1960年代に、黒澤明、溝口健二や小津安二郎を積極的に海外に紹介し、飯村隆彦、大林宣彦らとともに結成した「フィルム・アンデパンダン」に参加し、実験映画作家としても活躍した[4]。
1969年（昭和44年）から1972年（昭和47年）まで、ニューヨーク近代美術館の映画キュレーターも務めた。1983年（昭和58年）に第1回川喜多賞を受賞[5]。2004年（平成16年）、第5回東京フィルメックスの審査委員長を務めた。同年、旭日小綬章を受章[1]。
2013年（平成25年）2月19日、東京都内の病院で死去[1][6]。88歳没。
没後、執筆原稿や著作がボストン大学の資料保存センター"Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center"に寄贈され、展示も行なわれた[7]。
家族
作家のメアリー・リチー（マリー・エヴァンス名義でリッチーの実験映画作品の脚本も担当している）と一時結婚していたが[8]、日本では男性のパートナーと暮らしていた。自身はバイセクシャルであると公言していた[6]。
