ハマー族

ハマー族あるいはハマル族（英語: Hamar, Hamer; アムハラ語: ሀመር）はエチオピア南西部に住むオモ諸語を話す集団である。

    概要

    ハマー族は南部諸民族州(SNNPR)のデブブ・オモ地域（Debub Omo Zone）内、オモ川流域のハマル地区（en:Hamer (woreda)）に住んでいる。

    人口統計

    2007年の国勢調査によるとハマー族は4万6532人おり、その内957人が都市に住んでいる。大多数(99.13%)は南部諸民族州に住んでいる[2]。1994年のエチオピアの国勢調査によるとハマー語話者は4万2838人おり、4万2448人が自らをハマー族と認識している。これはエチオピアの総人口の約0.1%に当たる[3]。

    文化

    ハマー族の多くは肥沃な谷を利用した牧畜業を営んでいるため、文化的に牛に高い価値を置く。男性の通過儀礼として並んだ牛の背中を越えるというものがあり、この試練を乗り越えることができた者は Maza〈成熟した者〉と呼ばれるようになり、花嫁候補たちの中から1人選んで妻とする権利を得る[4]。

    男性が女性に鞭打ちを行い愛を確かめる儀式が行われる[5][6]。

    この民族や関連する民族の宗教においてはというミンギ（Mingi）という概念が見られる。これは不浄や「儀礼的汚れ」の状態を指す[7]。「ミンギ」と見做された人物――子供であることが多い――は集団から永久的に隔離され、ジャングルに独りで置き去りにされたり川で溺れさせられたりして死に追いやられる[8]。
