フェニックス (Phoenix) はフランス・ヴェルサイユで結成された[2] インディー・ロックバンド。

略歴

パリ近郊ヴェルサイユで幼馴染として育った3人によって、同じくヴェルサイユで学生時代を過ごしたフレンチ・デュオ、エールのバック・バンドを務めるため結成された[3]。1996年にブランコウィッツが加入し現在の4人のメンバーが揃い、フェニックスと名乗り正式に活動を開始する（ブランコはフェニックス以前に「ダーリン」というバンドで活動しており、メンバーであったギ＝マニュエルとトーマ・バンガルテルは、その後ダフト・パンクを結成）。1997年に自主盤「Party Time」リリースしたのをきっかけに、エール (バンド)が所属していたソースレーベルと契約。

2000年にデビューアルバム『United』を発表。ロックやソウルをエレクトロニクスと絶妙に融合させたその洗練されたポップ・サウンドが話題となり、スマッシュヒットとなる。エールやダフト・パンクと並び新世代パリ・シーンを代表するバンドとして、その名を世界的なものとした。4作目のアルバム『Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix』は自らのレーベル“Loyaute”からの初リリース。この作品でグラミー賞を受賞した。

どのシンセサイザーにも「YMOが使用」とあったことから興味を持ち、YMOの楽曲やライブパフォーマンススタイルに影響を受けたとインタビューで答えている[4]。

2023年には日本でライブを行なった。
