1962年3月17日[1]、メリーランド州ボルチモアに生まれる[1]。1984年、バージニア大学を卒業した[2]。
U2やP.M.ドーン、デ・ラ・ソウル、クリスタル・ウォーターズ、パール・ジャムなどのミュージック・ビデオを監督した[3]。1997年、『インディアナポリスの夏/青春の傷痕』で長編映画監督デビュー[4]。その後、『隣人は静かに笑う』や『プロフェシー』、『ヘンリー・プールはここにいる 〜壁の神様〜』などを監督している[5]。
