ミルフォード・グレイヴス

ミルフォード・グレイヴス[注 1]（Milford Graves、1941年8月20日 - 2021年2月12日[3]）は、アメリカのジャズ・ドラマー、パーカッショニスト、音楽名誉教授[4][5]、研究者/発明家[6][7]、ビジュアル・アーティスト/彫刻家[8][9][10][11]、庭師/薬草家[12][13]、武道家[14][15]。グレイヴスは、1960年代のポール・ブレイ、アルバート・アイラー、ニューヨーク・アート・カルテットらとの初期のアヴァンギャルド・ジャズにおける貢献で注目に値し、パーカッションをタイムキープする役割から解放したフリー・ジャズの先駆者とみなされている。作曲家でサックス奏者のジョン・ゾーンはグレイヴスを「基本的に20世紀のシャーマン」と呼んだ[16]。
