来歴

生い立ち

1994年11月4日、アメリカのテキサス州ヒューストンでベトナム人の両親のもとに生まれ、シュガーランドで育った。13歳のとき、祖父が持っていたギターとベトナム語の音楽書籍を頼りに独学でギターを始める。当時、ニコロデオンのテレビ番組『ドレイク&ジョシュ』に出演していたドレイク・ベルを見たことが、ギターを学ぶようになったもう一つのきっかけである。高校卒業後は、テキサス大学オースティン校に通い、看護学の学士号を取得[2]。その後2年間、テキサス医療センターで看護師として勤務しながら、音楽制作を続ける日々を送った[3]。最初に書いた楽曲は、エド・シーランとジョン・メイヤーの影響を強く受けている[4]。

シンガーソングライターとして

2017年、Casey Luong（ケイシー・ルオン）という名前から、幼少期のニックネームであるkeshi（ケシ）という名前に変更して音楽活動をするようになる。YouTubeの解説動画を見ることで、作曲やレコーディングなどを学び、SoundCloud上で楽曲の配信を開始した[2]。活動初期は自身のスキルと音楽の方向性に不安を抱いていたが、その美しい歌声とギターサウンドに、Lo-Fiのテイストを掛け合わせた独特の楽曲スタイルは、徐々に世間からの注目と人気を獲得。2019年になると、看護師としての仕事を辞めてニューヨークに飛び、アイランド・レコードとの契約までに至った[5]。ジョン・メイヤー、フランク・オーシャン、ドレイク、ブライソン・ティラー、The 1975などを最も影響を受けたアーティストとして挙げている[6]。
