韓国マイクロレンジング望遠鏡ネットワーク

韓国マイクロレンジング望遠鏡ネットワーク (Korea Microlensing Telescope Network、略称KMTNet)は、韓国天文研究院が運用する望遠鏡のネットワークである。口径1.6メートルの反射望遠鏡をセロ・トロロ汎米天文台 (チリ)、サイディング・スプリング天文台 (オーストラリア) 、南アフリカ天文台 (南アフリカ)に設置し、重力レンズ効果を利用して太陽系外惑星を発見することを主な科学目標としている。計画が開始されたのは2009年であり、2015年には望遠鏡にCCDカメラが搭載され、韓国天文研究院にてオープニングセレモニーが開催された[1]。

観測システム

世界3カ所に設置された望遠鏡は同一の設計となっており、口径1.6メートルの反射望遠鏡に、340メガピクセルのCCDカメラが搭載されている[2]。視野は4.0平方度である。取得されたデータは韓国大田広域市にある韓国天文研究院に転送される。転送されたデータはKMTNetデータセンターにて自動処理が施される。さらに、自動化されたパイプラインソフトウェアによって撮影された天体の明るさが測定され、光度の時間変化をとらえることができる。

観測プログラム

KMTNetの主要な観測は、天の川銀河のバルジを定常的に観測し、太陽系外惑星による重力レンズ効果を検出することである。しかし恒星の光度変化は太陽系外惑星による重力レンズ効果だけにとどまらず、太陽系外惑星によるトランジット、食変光星、恒星フレアなど、多様な要因で発生する。さらに、小惑星や彗星の発見も視野に入れている。[3]

バルジが観測できない季節には、超新星の捜索、黄道領域の高感度観測による小惑星の発見の他、近傍銀河、大小マゼラン雲、天の川銀河に付随する矮小銀河、活動銀河核の光度変化の観測など、多様な研究が行われている。

次の一覧は太陽系外惑星エンサイクロペディアのデータに基づく。惑星は2024年1月2日現在で83個発見されている。褐色矮星またはその可能性が高いもの(木星質量の13倍を目安とする)は記載していない。
