精神的依存

精神的依存(せいしんてきいぞん、せいしんてきいそん、Psychological dependence)とは、依存(Dependence、以下この訳)の種類であり、特定の薬物使用または行動を止めた際に、感情・動機的な離脱症状(たとえば不快感、喜びの喪失、不安など) が引き起こされている状況[1][2][8]

身体的・精神的依存はDSM-IV-TRなどにおいて、嗜癖(アディクション, Addiction、以下この訳)の一面や一要素としてしばしば分類される[9]。しかし依存を引き起こすいくつかの薬物は、ヒトにおいては嗜癖を生じさせないことがあり、またその逆も存在する[9]

嗜癖(アディクション)と精神的依存は、どちらもオペラント条件づけにおける強化を介していくが、この2つは異なる種類の強化だとされている[1][2]。前者は正の強化に従って報酬を与えることで起こる強迫的行動である[1][2] 。後者は負の強化であり、薬物を使用したいという渇望や、薬物への暴露の中断によって引き起こされる、不快な離脱症状を避けるために行動を起こすという欲求による[1][2]

精神的依存は、持続的に頻繁に刺激にさらされることによって起こる[10]。観察できる精神的な離脱症状を生じさせる行動(すなわち精神依存を生じさせる)には、運動、買い物、性交、ポルノによる自己刺激、砂糖や脂肪を高含有する食物などがある[8][11]

行動療法は、人の薬物に対する精神的依存や、精神的依存を引き起こす問題行動について、その克服を助けるために広く用いられている[12]
