ニューヨーク・メッツは1962年のエクスパンションによって誕生した、チームはニューヨーク州ニューヨーク市クイーンズ区をホームにしている。

現在まで24名の監督が歴任している。初代監督は殿堂表彰者でもあるケーシー・ステンゲルが務め、ギル・ホッジス監督時代の1969年と、デービー・ジョンソン監督時代の1986年ワールドシリーズ優勝を果たしている。現在は2022年からバック・ショーウォルターが務めている。
