フアン・ベラルデ

フアン・ベラルデ（Juan Velarde、1974年9月19日 - ）は、スペインのパイロット（定期運送用操縦士）。イベリア航空でエアバスA330の機長を務めているほか、エアバスA320のインストラクターをしていたこともある。現在は曲技飛行の分野でも活動している。

経歴
フアン・ベラルデのジブコ エッジ540（2017年千葉大会 ）

ボーイング747の機長だった父親の影響で飛行機に興味を持ち始めた。15歳の時にグライダーの飛行を始め、16歳で初の単独飛行を遂げる。高校卒業後にアラスカ州アンカレッジへ渡り、自家用操縦士の資格を取得し帰国。事業用操縦士の勉強をしながら、グライダーを牽引する仕事をした。テキサス州フォートワースでフライト・インストラクターをした後、22歳でイベリア航空に就職。[1]

曲技飛行を始めたのは1999年で、2004年にスペイン代表に選出されると、2011年までヨーロッパ圏の全ての選手権に出場し、2007年と2010年にはチームを準優勝に導き、個人では国内選手権で2度優勝したほか、準優勝4回、3位を1回の記録を残した。[1]

2014年にレッドブル・エアレース・ワールドシリーズのチャレンジャークラスに参戦し、翌2015年にマスタークラスに昇格し、ラウンド・オブ・8（14名中上位8名が進出）への進出を目標に掲げた[2]。2015年シーズンの最高位は第2戦と最終戦での9位で[注 1]、最終戦ではわずか0.008秒差で惜しくもラウンド・オブ・8進出のチャンスを逃す結果を残した[3]。2016年、第2戦の予選で1位通過したが、ラウンド・オブ・14でオーバーGにより敗退した[4]。2017年シーズンの開幕戦で初めてファイナル4に進出し、2位となった[5]。

レッドブル・エアレースでは「Team Velarde」として活動していた。チームのメインスポンサーはスペインのレプソルであった。機体はジブコ エッジ540のV2を使用していた。

2019年のレッドブル・エアレース終了後、2022年開幕のワールドチャンピオンシップエアレース（WACR:World Championship Air Race）にもレースパイロットとして参加[6]
